Announcing The Antibody Society’s 2025 James S. Huston Antibody Science Talent Award winner!

👏 We are proud to announce Dr. Xin Zhou, Ph.D., as the recipient of the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗦. 𝗛𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱!

Dr. Zhou was selected for her pioneering work in protein engineering and chemical biology, advancing understanding of immune signaling, cancer drug resistance, and therapeutic reprogramming. She will present her research at the upcoming 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 in San Diego this December, and we look forward to her talk.

Dr. Zhou is an Assistant Professor of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School and of Cancer Biology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗗𝗿. 𝗭𝗵𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝗯:

She holds a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Stanford University School of Medicine and completed postdoctoral research at University of California, San Francisco as a Merck – Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation Fellow. Since joining Dana-Farber and Harvard in 2022, her lab has developed technologies in protein engineering and chemical biology to study cancer and immune signaling, drug resistance, and metastasis, and to engineer self-regulated antibodies, enzymes, and cells for therapeutic reprogramming.

𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲:

2023 James S. Huston Antibody Science Talent Award recipient is announced!

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Heather J. Bax has been selected as the 2023 James S. Huston Antibody Science Talent Award Recipient!

Dr. Heather J. Bax is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, King’s College London. She trained at GlaxoSmithKline as an industrial placement and undergraduate project student supporting drug discovery for asthma and allergic inflammation. She completed her PhD in Professor Hannah Gould’s laboratory, King’s College London, focusing on the interaction between IgE antibodies and mast cells in the context of allergic diseases.

As a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Professor Sophia Karagiannis’ laboratory, King’s College London, Dr. Bax undertook multidisciplinary research on the ground-breaking preclinical development of the first-in-class IgE antibody, MOv18 IgE, for the treatment of folate receptor alpha (FRα)-expressing ovarian cancers. In this role, she established and implemented several clinical trial assays to support the now successfully completed first-in-man, Phase 1 clinical trial of MOv18 IgE (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT02546921). She also led the preclinical studies of CSPG4 IgE, another IgE therapeutic candidate targeting melanoma.

Dr. Bax currently supports a translational research program funded by the King’s College London spinout Epsilogen Ltd (formerly IGEM Therapeutics Ltd.), the first immuno-oncology company focusing on IgE immunotherapies for cancer. Leading a team of two postdoctoral researchers and working closely with colleagues at Epsilogen Ltd., she oversees several research studies focusing on the next generation of IgE-based antibodies for the treatment of solid tumors.

Early career research scientists who have received an advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) within the past ten (10) years are eligible for the Award. The scientist is recognized for making important contributions to the antibody field and/or the dissemination of antibody knowledge. The recipient will be invited to give a lecture on their work, which will be made available on-line on The Antibody Society’s website, and to give a lecture at the Antibody Engineering & Therapeutics conference in December 2023.

The award includes: international recognition of the scientist’s accomplishments, a $1500 USD prize, and travel costs and registration fees to attend the annual Antibody Engineering & Therapeutics conference in San Diego, California.

The Huston Award is given by The Antibody Society to recognize and encourage upcoming scientists in the field of antibody engineering and therapeutics. Early-career research scientists who have received an advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) within the past 10 years are eligible for the Award. The scientist is recognized for making important contributions to the antibody field and/or the dissemination of antibody knowledge. The recipient will be invited to give a live webinar on their work, which will also be made available on demand on The Antibody Society’s Learning Center and YouTube channel, and to give a lecture at the Antibody Engineering & Therapeutics conference.

The application submission deadline is September 15, 2023.

The Award includes:

  • International recognition of the scientist’s accomplishments,
  • $1500 USD, and
  • Travel expenses and registration fee to attend the Antibody Engineering & Therapeutics conference, to be held December 14-16, 2023 in San Diego, California.

2021 James S. Huston Antibody Science Talent Award winner is announced!

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Laura M. Walker has been selected as the 2021 James S. Huston Antibody Science Talent Award Recipient!

Dr. Walker is the Senior Director of Antibody Sciences at Adimab and the Chief Scientific Officer and a co-founder of Adagio Therapeutics. Her team at Adimab is focused on understanding human B cell responses to viral infection and discovering broadly neutralizing antibodies to a wide variety of emerging viral pathogens, including Ebola, Zika, yellow fever, and SARS-CoV-2. At Adagio, Laura oversees a broad portfolio of research in the area of viral immunology, including the identification of potent and broadly neutralizing antibodies to advance into clinical development. Prior to joining Adimab in 2012, Dr. Walker earned her Ph.D. in Immunology and Microbiology in Prof. Dennis Burton’s laboratory at The Scripps Research Institute and completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in Immunology at The University of California-San Francisco. Dr. Walker has received multiple fellowships and awards, including the Endpoints News “The 20 under 40 in biopharma” award in 2020.
